The end of January I took on the daunting task of watching my sisters 4 kids in Idaho, plus Claire. They were headed off to a cow conference and needed someone to stay with the kiddos! So we packed our bags, hopped on a plane and headed to Parma, Idaho for 5 days!
For some reason I wasn't too nervous about it... going from 1 kid to 5 shouldn't be too hard right? HaHa
I couldn't fit my camera in my bag, it was already stuffed to the hilt, so here is the weekend according to the good ole' iPhone.
Claire was a gem on the plane ride! Since I was taking the earlier flight to Boise, they had open seats, so I was able to get an open seat next to me for Claire, thank heavens!
She was fascinated with the windows and the plane and clouds - she just soaked it all in. That entertained her for quite a bit, till we got up in the sky and it started to all look the same.
Then it was time to crack open the bag of goodies. We played with stickers, colors, cups, the magazines on the airplane, read books and played with the Elmo phone. Next came snacks! Since it was a short flight the we didn't get anything on the plane, but I had come prepared with plenty of her favorite treats. I think by the time we landed we had gone through 4 packages of fruit snacks, 3 dum-dum suckers and a granola bar. By the time the sugar high kicked in, we had landed - - thank heavens!!
Ali and D weren't scheduled to leave till the next day so we spent the day shopping in Boise, lunch at Sonic and then home to get the kids from school.
They took off early the next morning and all 5 kids were in my care; scary!! :) Crazy enough, the next 4 days passed by fast and we had tons of fun.
These 2 were buds the whole time we were there. Kate is a bit older than Claire so we learned all sorts of new things while we were there.
We learned to eat without a high chair and sit up like a big kid. Claire was in heaven. She just wanted to sit here for hours with Kate and feel like a big girl. They had their matching snacks and water bottles and were set to go.
Although it was a bit chilly, we spent TONS of time outside! They have a BIG sand pit with a fun play set in it, a helicopter and a tramp - - hence the reason we spent plenty of time outside. Claire was learning how to walk up and down stairs at the time so she spent most of her time right here; mastering the stairs on the deck
Here is the little munch hamming it up. What's not to love about this face. It was so nice to have someone for Claire to play with 24/7. Instead of following mommy around all day, her and Kate and Trevor created plenty of mischief while the older 2 were at school.
By the end of the trip though, I was exhausted, and apparently Claire was too! I thought I'd walk away with some good birth control, but it actually made me want a more kids and bigger family ASAP :) It was so fun to all play together and just be together as family. They are all awesome kids; so I'm sure that aided in my decision.
We flew home Sunday, just in time to catch the end of the Super Bowl. On the way home, Claire was obsessed with my water bottle that has the sucky top that I had bought at a place in the airport. She just kept wanting to drink out of it and play with it - so I let her go at it. It entertained her for more than half of the flight! BUT, once the water bottle was gone and we had started into something else, I felt something wet on my leg. I thought maybe the last few drops of the water bottle had dropped onto my leg, but no... Claire had peed through her diaper!!! Ahh!! Too much water I guess in a short period of time. So yes, I crammed me and Claire into the airplane bathroom and put a new diaper on. Thank heavens we were close to landing so I we didn't both have to sit in wet pants for too long!
The trip was a blast, I'm so glad we went! It always fun to fly on airplanes and do things out of the everyday norm! Thanks Mann Fam!
